This super easy all-natural foot balm is made with jojoba oil, shea butter, beeswax, vitamin E oil, and essential oils to help with cracked heels and dry skin.

All-Natural Foot Balm Stick (1)

The hands and feet are the most susceptible to dry skin. I use a DIY hand mask in the winter to help alleviate the dry, cracking skin on my hands. Up until now, though, I have done very little to moisturize my feet.

I don’t know about you, but the bottom of my feet can get pretty dry and the skin on my heels tends to crack probably more than it should.

It probably has something to do with walking around barefoot almost 100% of the time. I have found the perfect solution to my problem, and it isn’t wearing shoes! 😉

This homemade foot balm with beeswax will leave the bottom of your feet soft, smooth, and free of dry, cracking skin.

I apply it at night before bed to give it the best opportunity to soak into my skin; by morning, my feet are soft and smooth.

Being familiar with conventional balms and DIY foot lotions, I am happy to report that this natural foot balm is as good or better.

The best ingredients for dry skin are natural oils, shea butter, beeswax, and essential oils. For this recipe, I am using jojoba oil which is very moisturizing.

If jojoba oil is not in your DIY cabinet, sweet almond oil, olive oil, and fractionated coconut oil would be a great substitute for jojoba as they are all very moisturizing.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil has anti-inflammatory properties making it great for dry, chapped skin. In addition, it can help reduce redness, cracked skin and restore damaged skin.

Jojoba oil is very moisturizing, anti-bacterial, and is a natural antioxidant. It is hypoallergenic, making it great for sensitive skin.

Shea Butter

Shea butter has some surprisingly incredible benefits for the skin. It’s one of those ingredients I try to sneak into all of my DIY skincare products. It has a beautiful texture and makes the best homemade shea butter lotion.

Shea butter comes from the fat found in the nuts of a shea tree. It has been used in the cosmetic industry for many, many years. Shea butter is loaded with vitamins and fatty acids that are great for the skin.

It is good for almost all skin types, cleansing for the skin, very moisturizing, and can help boost collagen production. Shea butter can help promote healthy-looking skin and reduce dry, cracked skin.

Beeswax

The beeswax in this recipe serves three purposes: it gives the foot balm the perfect texture, it allows us to store and apply it straight from a foot balm stick, and beeswax adds several benefits to the balm.

Beeswax creates a protective layer on the skin, making it great for the feet. It traps in moisture and leaves the skin hydrated.

Beeswax is a good source of vitamin A which can help reduce wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of aging, which I guess is probably not really a concern for your feet.

If you want to make this recipe vegan, you can use soy wax to replace the beeswax. Or you can omit the beeswax altogether and make a foot cream instead of a foot balm stick.

Essential Oils for Foot Balm

Cooling essential oils like peppermint, eucalyptus, and spearmint are great essential oils to add to homemade foot balm. These oils can cool and soothe the skin.

Other essential oils that are great for the skin are tea tree, lavender, and frankincense. These essential oils can help cleanse and purify the skin.

Tea tree oil has anti-fungal properties, making it a great oil to apply to the feet.

If you don’t have essential oils, you can still make this balm. The essential oils will add a nice scent to your foot balm as well as several benefits for the skin, but they are optional.

Vitamin E Oil

Vitamin E oil is added to many skincare products, especially to anti-aging skincare. It is a natural antioxidant and moisturizing. Vitamin E oil can help with skin issues such as eczema and really itchy skin.

Like the essential oils, vitamin E oil is optional and will make a great addition to your foot balm.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Measure out the beeswax and shea butter and place it in a small saucepan.
  2. Melt the beeswax and shea butter over low to medium-low heat. Stir often to keep it from burning or sticking to the bottom of the pan.
  3. Once melted, remove from the heat and allow it to cool for 3 minutes.
  4. Add in jojoba oil, vitamin E oil, and essential oil.
  5. Stir until ingredients are well combined, then pour into the deodorant stick.
  6. Allow the balm to cool and fully harden before using.

Recipe Notes:

  • If you don’t have a deodorant stick, you can store the balm in a mason jar or any twist up stick.
  • The shea butter can be substituted for mango butter or cocoa butter.
  • Jojoba oil can be substituted for any other carrier oil.
  • Vitamin E oil and essential oils are optional.
  • You can use this along with a homemade foot scrub to help with dry, dead skin.

How To Use Homemade Foot Balm

Swipe a thin layer of the foot balm to the bottom of the feet twice daily. For best results, apply before bed and in the morning. I like to wear a pair of socks overnight to help the balm soak into the soles of my feet.

If needed, apply more balm to the heels and massage into the skin using your fingers. The foot balm can stay on the feet and does not need to be washed off.

This foot balm stick is great for traveling or carrying in your purse. I recently made a traveling body butter stick for the inevitable cracking skin in the winter months.

How Long Does DIY Foot Balm Last?

If stored in a cool, dry place, this foot balm should last up to 6 months. It can be stored at room temperature but avoid direct sunlight and hot temperatures.

Vitamin E oil works as a natural preservative and helps the ingredients to last longer. Adding an antioxidant like vitamin E antioxidant or rosemary antioxidant will help extend the product’s shelf life.

Homemade Foot Balm With Essential Oils

If you decide to add essential oils into your foot balm, you can add a single essential oil or a blend of oils. Below are a few of my favorite combos to use:

Dry Skin

  • 5 drops myrrh
  • 3 drops lavender
  • 2 drops of wild orange

Cracked Heels

  • 5 drops tea tree
  • 3 drops eucalyptus
  • 2 drops lavender

Soothing and Cooling

  • 5 drops peppermint
  • 3 drops spearmint
  • 2 drops bergamot

And there you have it! My favorite homemade foot balm recipe using natural and simple ingredients.

It works to the same effect as a homemade foot lotion but is much easier to travel with and apply to the feet!
